Vi har nu ett projekt i engelska som handlar mycket inom såpopera. Vi har diskuterat hit och dit om vad som hör till genren såpopera och vissa antyder att ex. Arkiv X hör till genren såpopera.

Jag tycker detta låter fel och drar med ett par exempel som vi också diskuterat.

Därför tänkte jag nu höra vad ni andra tycker verkar stämma. Är The Simpsons en såpopera? Jag tycker det låter helt fel att kalla ex. Fresh Prince i Bel-Air för såpopera, men visst kan jag själv ha fel. Vad tror och vad "vet" ni andra?

För mig är en såpopera något där man tar en bunt människor och slänger ihop dem och ser vad som händer. Serier som har ett manuskript kallar inte jag för såpopera.

the term soap opea originates from when soap companies sponsered shows during the 50's-60's.. these shows were aimed at housewives (hence the selling of cleaning products..) and the story lines were suitibly fluffy (Royce and his wife Belinda having torrid affairs with each others evil twins, bad sunsets, cheezy music etc) alternativly, lots of sing and dance routines and lots of fluffy skirts of suitable length for ladies..

This genre is now refered to as "daytime drama" (read: crap) and is still aimed at people who are at home in the afternoons (read: housewives). Storylines these days have progressed, and you can see your favorite actors appearing in more than one serise (Stefano, anyone? Marlena is possessed by the devil and needs to be cleansed [soap again?] but only Cole know where the secret jewels are.. do do do!) Also, soap opera characters tend to plot their evil deeds out loud, while making "serious" faces to suitibly suspenseful, omnious music. Like "When John finds out what you've done, Nancy, Dominic and I will take over your publishing empire and steal your adopted son Carson and raise him to hate you! HA HA HA! *fade to commercial*"

What confuses the issue here is that swedish TV puts this.. excrement.. on during the dinner/after dinner slots. Why, I dont know.. but its always worried me. No one in their right mind watches this ... poop.. unless they are home during the day and already vomiting from having the flu..


X-Files is NOT a soap opera. Sunset Beach IS a soap opera. (the amount of cheesy saxaphone in the theme song is a clue here..)

Simpsons is a comedy show. Anyone who doesnt get that shouldnt be allowed to watch.

Jag håller med dig Tidey och påstår ej motsatsen. I klassrummet var det framförallt en elev som (fortfarande) påstår att ex. Millenium är en såpopera. Jag har aldrig själv sett mig som en person som följer såpoperor eftersom att de går väldigt ofta. Tre kronor, Rederiet och ett par till såpoperor har jag tittat på lite granna, men inte speciellt mycket för att hänga med i självaste handlingen. "Cliff-Hanger" används alltid i slutet på såpoperor så vitt jag förstår. Det menas att filmen slutar med något överraskande, någonting som får en att vilja fortsätta till nästa del. Jag är iaf överbevisad nu att Star Trek (ex.) INTE är en såpopera. Tack för ditt inlägg Tidey!

Ok. Här kommer mina åsikter. Jag kanske har en något antik syn på begreppet såpopera, TV-såpa etc men det står jag för och är stolt över.

Grundregler:

• För det första tycker jag att en såpopera ska sakna komediprägel.
  
• En såpopera maler på i all evighet utan givet slut. Klart att de kan ta slut, men det finns inget "mål" med serien, ingen "det är det här vi kämpar mot".
  
• Man skildrar en miljö, ett samhälle, givna karaktärer - inte enskilda händelser. Man petar in händelser bland personerna, inte personer runt en händelse.
  
• En såpopera visar gärna flera avsnitt i veckan. Annars kallar jag det för TV-serie.
  
• En såpopera får under inga omständigheter ha avslutande avsnitt. Det vill säga att en story avhandlas i ett eller kanske två avsnitt. Arkiv X t.ex avhandlar för det mesta en liten story i varje avsnitt. Sedan finns det iofs en bakomliggande historieram runt omkring Mulder och Scully etc. Men den finns där för att hålla tittarna klistrade. Mer om Arkiv X senare.
  
• En såpopera ska vara riktigt lågbudget. Det ska vara samma miljö och samma kulisser nästan hela tiden (med enstaka undantag ibland).
  
• Såpoperor växte fram som genre i USA när man kom underfund med att man kunde göra billiga serier och pumpa ut dessa till hemmafruarna och dra in massa reklamintäkter på skräpet.

För att försäkra sig om att hemmafruarna tittade varje dag fick man ta till en del knep:

• Det ska till stor del handla om relationer och kärlek. Sånt gillar tjejer/kvinnor
  
• Nästan varje avsnitt avslutas med en cliffhanger, dvs "Och pappan till barnet är...", "Så den som dödade Owen var..." eller kanske ...
  
• Ej avslutande avsnitt som sagt.
  
• Å andra sidan vill man ha kvar tittarna även om de missar ett avsnitt/en vecka/en kvart. Det fixar man genom att låta handlingen fortskrida enormt långsamt framåt. Det nya som hinner hända i varje avsnitt är ganska begränsat.
  
• Man låter även skådespelarna mala om och mala om samma saker i veckor så att hemmafruarna lätt kan räkna ut vad som hände dagen innan utan att behöva ringa någon och fråga.
  

Sen finns det vissa standardingredienser som en riktig såpopera "måste" ha med. Minst en men gärna flera av dessa:

• En Tvillingbror/syster (som gärna dyker upp först i säsong 4 eller 5)
  
• Någon måste någon gång under seriens lopp hamna i koma på sjukhus. Om personen överlever eller ej är skit samma. Men oftast gör dem det.
  
• Någon skådespelare byts ut, men rollkaraktären är den samma.
  
• Standardkaraktären: Bitchen. Gärna 40+ men kan vara yngre. Ska sabba för allt och alla.
  
• Standardkaraktären: Losern. En outsider. Den person som alla tittare kan få njuta av att se misslyckas, eller tycka synd om. Om ni undrar vart uttrycket "Cliff" kommer ifrån så är det från Losern Cliff Barnes i Dallas. Kan kanske vara kriminell, missbrukare, misshandlare eller bara ful.
  
• En eldsvåda
  
• Otrohet (naturligtvis)
  
• etc

Gränsfall: Många av dessa skulle säkert vilja kalla dessa för Såpoperor, men jag anser att de inte går in under det ursprungliga begreppet. Dock har väl begreppet vattnats ut med tiden och kanske kan man kalla det TV-såpor nu. Lite mer krut har här lagts på manus och skådespelarskicklighet än i de vanliga såpoperorna. Kvar finns dock de gamla ingredienserna oändlighetsmanus, skildra en miljö - inte en händelse.

Varför Arkiv X inte är en TV-såpa:
Visserligen har man en övergripande story som rör sig framåt riktigt långsamt men som fängslar tittaren. Däremot faller det på många andra punkter: avslutande avsnitt, ett avsnitt per vecka, inga lågbudgetkulisser, bra manus, bra skådespelare.

Slutsats:
Som vanligt har begreppet Såpopera kommit att vattnas ur något vansinnigt. Idag tillverkas det så många serier att man för att få någon fason på allt väljer att utöka betydelsen av begrepp för att i sitt inre kunna sortera in företeelser i olika fack (som de ursprungligen inte var avsedda för). Förändringar sker. Det är det enda man kan vara säker på. Däremot hoppas jag själv att man kanske kan använda begreppet TV-såpor om nutidens serier och att man låter Såpoperor stå för den ursprungliga genre som var medvetet riktad mot hemmafruarna. Idag har -såpa kommit att beteckna allt som man hinner tröttna på i viss mån, eller allt som blir tjatigt och återkommande. Dokusåpa, Realitysåpa, TV-såpa kan vidare diskuteras av de som känner för det. Vilka ska/får innehålla tävlingsmoment? Det lägger jag mig inte i idag.

Jag skulle säkert kunna fundera ut mer grundregler och standardingredienser men det får bli en annan gång i så fall. Nu vet ni var jag står i frågan...

för övrigt övrigt så undviker jag i princip allt som behöver fler dagar än en för att visas...miniserier på 2-3 avsnitt är väl ok kanske. TV är till för att titta på nyheter, dokumentärer, filmer och musikbyrån/filmkrönikan/bildjournalen/kulturnytt.
